Northern Michigan: Uncovering the Midwest’s Hidden Gem
When summer comes, people hit the coast. States in the Midwest are usually not in the radar of most minds when thinking of a vacation destination… which is a shame because there is certainly more to see in the US than the hustle and bustle of NYC or LA and the sunny beaches of FL. Northern Michigan is a prime example of the “overlooked” and “hidden” natural beauty that can be found in the heartland of the US.
Traverse City: The Heart of Northern Michigan
Traverse City, the bustling hub of Northern Michigan, surprised us with its vibrant atmosphere. Nestled along the picturesque Traverse Bay, this charming city is surrounded by lush vineyards and offers a plethora of dining experiences. The highlight? Moomers Ice Cream – hands down the best we’ve ever tasted! Don’t miss this local favorite when you visit.

Sleeping Bear Dunes: A Natural Wonder
In 2011, Good Morning America viewers crowned Sleeping Bear Dunes the “Most Beautiful Place in America,” and we couldn’t agree more. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a must-visit destination, with the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive and Dune Climb being the most popular attractions. We were awestruck by the miles of towering sand dunes overlooking the crystal-clear waters of Lake Michigan. The view is truly breathtaking – photos simply can’t capture its majesty. As we walked along the smooth sand, breathing in the crisp, pure air, we felt a sense of peace and connection with nature. For hiking enthusiasts, the park offers numerous trails. The Empire Bluff Trail, a 2-mile round trip, is one of the most popular, offering sweeping views of the coast and North Bar Lake.

Charlevoix: A Trip Down Memory Lane
Charlevoix holds a special place in our hearts – it’s where we tied the knot a decade ago! Revisiting our wedding venue and indulging in our wedding cake flavor was a nostalgic treat. The boys had fun re-creating some wedding memories with us, too. 🙂 The small-town charm of Charlevoix captivated us once again, and every meal was a culinary delight.

Mackinac Island: A Step Back in Time
Mackinac Island, just 8 miles in circumference, is a car-free paradise where horses and bicycles reign supreme. The ferry ride to the island offers stunning views of the 5-mile long Mackinac Bridge. Cycling around the island daily would be a dream come true – feeling the sea breeze in your hair while surrounded by picturesque views is truly magical. Our boys could easily imagine themselves swimming and horseback riding every day!
